Product overview

The medical tuning fork is a diagnostic instrument for testing hearing and vibration sense. It is intended for ENT specialists, neurologists, general practitioners, audiologists and physiotherapists in clinics, hospitals and teaching institutions, and forms part of the standard neurological and ear examination kit.

The fork is struck gently against the heel of the hand or a padded surface to set it vibrating. For hearing tests the stem is placed on the mastoid or forehead and the tines held near the ear to compare bone and air conduction; for neurological assessment the vibrating stem is applied to bony prominences to test sensation. The frequency marked on the fork is confirmed on quotation.
